Evaluation of the Transforming School Counseling Initiative

About the Project

The National Program for Transforming School Counseling is an initiative of the Wallace Reader's Digest Funds that seeks to improve guidance counseling in public schools by transforming graduate-level preparation of counselors. The over arching goal is to help students succeed academically—especially students living in low-income communities and students of color. To that end, the initiative is focused on producing guidance counselors:

  • Who are knowledgeable about schools and the public school system;

  • Who are equipped to help students meet their educational and personal goals; and

  • Who advocate for system change by working to remove barriers that impede the success of all students.

Six universities, working in partnership with local school districts, are receiving Fund grants, and The Education Trust, a Washington D.C.-based education group, is providing technical assistance.
