Bloomington/Richfield Early Reading First (ERF)
Get Ready Centers of Excellence

CAREI is conducting a longitudinal evaluation of the Bloomington/Richfield Early Reading First (ERF) program, a federally funded competitive grant program.

Reports from Years I and II are available below. The final report will be available in November 2007.

Student Population

The Bloomington/Richfield program targets children aged 3-5 who face challenges in being ready for school, including children from low-income families and English language learners.

Goals

  • Improve children’s language and early reading skills
  • Make participants competitive with peers at Kindergarten entrance
  • Improve classroom environments so that they are intentionally literacy focused
  • Build teacher capacity

Phases

  • The first year of the program ran from January to July in 2005 and enrolled 4-year-olds.
  • The second year of the program ran from September 2005 to July 2006, and enrolled both 3- and 4-year-olds.
  • Bloomington/Richfield ERF is currently in its third year.
