I began my career as a classroom teacher in the primary grades, followed by several years as an administrator. My interest in early reading led me to complete a master's degree in reading with an emphasis on the individual needs of children. I followed that with doctoral work in educational psychology with an emphasis on how young children understand what they read.

I now teach the kindergarten methods courses for initial licensure students and for those who are adding kindergarten endorsement to their elementary license. I also teach early literacy courses.

Selected courses taught:

  • CI 5254—Kindergarten Methods
  • CI 5415—Literacy Development for the Primary Grades
  • CI 5254 & CI 5190—Kindergarten Methods and Directed Study for kindergarten licensure endorsement (offered Summer 2007 and Summer 2008)
