Elementary education foundations (pre-licensure)

Elementary education foundations offers professional preparation for undergraduate students who are planning to become elementary school teachers, special education teachers, or to work with elementary-age children in other settings. Students usually declare their major in this field during their junior or senior year. Courses emphasize child development, concepts related to how knowledge and apprehension are gained, how to create lesson plans, development of classroom strategies, and educational methodology. Students spend significant amounts of time as tutors and as student teachers in local schools. More than 80 percent of foundations graduates go on to earn licensure as elementary or special education teachers.
