What do you do at ETC Services?
I am an ETC Services volunteer who provides outreach to connect with diverse populations across campus bringing career information to multicultural events and activies.
Education
Ph.D. Counseling Psychology, current student
University of Minnesota
M.A., C.R.C, Rehabilitation Counseling
University of Maryland – College Park
B.S. Psychology & Sociology
University of Minnesota
How did you get here?
My first college experience was as a TRiO student participating in an experiential multicultural learning community in the former General College. Having the luxury of belonging to these groups allowed me a chance to explore my ideas of self as well as granted access to the resources in the Transfer Career Center - now the Exploratory, Transition, and Career Services Center (ETC Services). This center assisted in the facilitation of my career maturity and brought lasting relationships. With all this support I was forced to leave Maryland, and come back home!
What do you like about your job?
The coolest aspect of my job is working in such an encouraging environment with great people. The environment creates a place that allows me to encourage others and effectively assist in career development. I must say I love coming to work!
Most unusual job you ever had:
I think that my most unusual job would be working as a Pharmacy Technician because it was a slow pace job and the days felt like eternity.
More about you:
I spend a lot of my time smiling and singing songs that I do not fully know the lyrics to. I am great at converting rap songs into R&B tracks even when it is uncalled for. I honestly wish I could sing. I love being around people and imagining the future. I also LOVE food.
What tip would you give students for getting the most out of ETC Services?
Be open-minded and explore yourself. It is important to recognize that every day we learn something new about ourselves. Take the time to learn more about how to become the person you see in your future.
