How did you get here?
I was first exposed to career services as a student employee at Hamline University in their Career Development Center. This is where I began learning about career counseling, but at the time I didn’t know this would become my career path. It wasn’t until I was pursuing my master’s degree that I really clarified my interest in student services and career counseling. After completion of my master’s degree I found a position as an academic adviser in the Martin Luther King Program here at the U of M. After advising for three years, I moved into a position as a counselor advocate in General College, which allowed me to do both advising and career counseling. From General College, I transitioned into my current position as a career counselor.
What do you like about your job?
I love working with students who are exploring their academic and career options! It’s a lot of fun.
Most unusual job you ever had:
Mowed lawns while in junior high school.
More about you:
I enjoy reading, travel, photography, scrapbooking, biking, kick boxing, movies, HBO, and spending time with family and friends.
What tip would you give students for getting the most out of ETC Services?
Start using ETC services early! We enjoy working with first-year students and we have resources for all stages of your career development. Remember academic and career decision-making is a process; it takes time. We’re here to help.
