During your junior year
Your junior year is a great time to explore potential careers paths that are related to your major and to engage in career-related experiences such as internships and study abroad. Your junior year is also the time to begin preparing for the job search or applying to graduate/professional school.
lf you are still unsure of your major or need help in determining your career path start with resources specially designed for this stage of career development.
A checklist for juniors
- Explore what you can do with your College major.
- Enroll in ID 3201—Career Planning or CFAN 4201—Strategic Career Planning. These courses will help you explore careers and address strategic resume writing, networking, and interviewing.
- Gain skills through career-related experiences such as internships, part-time, and summer employment, volunteer activities, service learning, and international opportunities.
- Develop your leadership skills.
- Begin building a career network and develop relationships with faculty in your major.
- Upgrade social skills by attending the etiquette dinner offered every fall semester. First impressions are important!
- Perfect your job search materials including a résumé and cover letter.
- Register with GoldPass to post your résumé for potential employers and view internship and job listings.
- Meet with a career counselor to develop a job search plan [.pdf].
- Join professional associations and organizations. You'll find links
