Writing the essay

Write a one to two page, double-spaced, reflective essay describing your experience with young children and diverse student populations. Please include your name on the essay.

  1. Introduce yourself and the purpose of the essay.
    • State your name, the college, and major/program to which you are applying.
  2. What are your career goals?
    • Highlight your past and current interests and/or experiences in early childhood education.
    • Be specific, give examples, and provide information about what you did, what population you worked with, and what you learned (such as skills development) from each experience.
    • Relate these experiences to what you hope to do in the future as far as career goals in early childhood education.
  3. How do you feel you might contribute to the field of early childhood education?
    • What do you bring and what do you have to offer this field?
  4. How will the early childhood education foundations program in CEHD help you to achieve your goals?
    • Write a summary statement such as: “As highlighted above, I believe that the early childhood education foundations program in the College of Education and Human Development will help me to achieve my goals because ______(insert your thoughts)_____.”
