Tips on writing your application essay and résumé
Kinesiology undergraduate program
Preparation
Gather information:
- Research and read about the program.
- Attend an info session to gather more information. If you can't make it to a session, contact Arien Telles, transfer admissions coordinator.
- Visit the Exploratory, Transition, and Career Services center in 127 Appleby Hall to help you edit your essay or to learn more about the program.
Writing the essay
Write a typed personal statement addressing how your past and current interests, personal and professional experiences, and training have influenced your decision to study the field of kinesiology in a society that values diversity.
- Introduce yourself and the purpose of the essay.
- State your name, the college, and major/program to which you are applying.
- What are you interested in, what are your experiences, and
how does this relate to kinesiology?
- Pull from your résumé and highlight your past and current interests and/or experiences that relate to the field of kinesiology (be specific and give examples).
- Highlight your experience working with diverse populations and integrate your thoughts regarding diversity.
- Talk about how your interests, experiences, and diversity have influenced your decision to study the field of kinesiology.
- How will the kinesiology program in CEHD help you to achieve
your goals?
- Write a summary statement such as: “As highlighted above, I believe that the Kinesiology program in the College of Education and Human Development will help me to achieve my goals because _____(insert your thoughts)____”.
Sample kinesiology résumé
Specific instructions by the kinesiology program on what to include in your résumé: a typed résumé of your kinesiology or non-kinesiology-related experiences, including paid, volunteer, or internship work.
