Much of my professional career has been spent working in
PreK-12 general, special education and higher education. I’ve been a
high school English teacher, worked with children and adults with
special needs and held leadership positions in PreK-12 school,
hospital and higher education administration. While on leave from the
university during academic years 2002-2004, I had the unique
opportunity to serve as Dean, undergraduate and graduate education for
the Center of American Education in Singapore. This experience has
enhanced my interest in comparative international education and
development.
My responsibilities in both small and large organizations have
entailed many aspects of leadership and management such as strategic
planning, fiscal management, staff development and program evaluation.
The experience of working in various U.S. and international PreK-12,
and higher education organizations has helped strengthen my
understanding of the policy and practice of educational leadership in
diverse cultures. Living and working in Singapore provided me with the
opportunity to learn more about the culture, educational philosophy
and pedagogy of teaching and learning reflected in higher education
institutions throughout the ASEAN Region.
Within EdPA, I co-direct the Ed.D. Program for international school
educators, the Ph.D. program in higher education for cohort students
from Taiwan, the M.Ed. in teacher leadership, co-coordinate the
Education Policy Fellowship Program, teach related courses and advise
students. I really enjoy teaching and advising. It’s energizing to
interact with students around diverse ideas, and to participate in the
wealth of knowledge and skills generated through that process.
