Comparative and international development education (CIDE) track

in educational policy and administration

Students enrolled in CIDE are the future leaders, policy analysts, educators and researchers in the field of comparative and international development education. All students enrolled in this track of educational policy and administration will incorporate relevant knowledge from the behavioral and social sciences and the humanities into their studies.

This program is for applicants interested in the following areas of inquiry:

I. Comparative and international development education

  • Cross-national studies of education
  • Comparative studies of education systems and outcomes
  • Studies of education and international development
  • Studies of education and sociocultural development
  • Studies of education and academic achievement
  • Studies of education and community development
  • Studies of non-formal, adult, and multicultural education
  • Studies of gender equity in education

II. International educational exchange/International education

  • The internationalization of higher education
  • The internationalization of K-12 education (global education)
  • Study abroad program administration and programming
  • International education administration: higher education level
  • Teaching and administration in international schools: K-12 level
  • International educational exchange programs
  • Intercultural education and training
  • Cultural adjustment and learning

III. Global youth policy and leadership

  • Examination of primary issues facing young people globally
  • Creation processes and development of exemplary models of youth policies
  • Analyze youth issues in local, national, regional, and global contexts
  • Make explicit policy recommendations
  • Advocate for essential change in public youth policy
  • Address strategic trends in global youth development
  • Design scenarios of formal, informal, non-formal, experiential, and service learning
  • Integration of existing and forecasted technology into the study of Youth Futures

Graduates of the CIDE program concentration pursue careers in teaching, administration, consulting, and counseling in universities, government agencies, foundations, and private non-profit organizations.
