Licensing for educational administrators

Course registration procedures

This page contains information for new and continuing students who plan to register for administrative licensure courses. While the administrative licensure staff facilitates course registration for some students, the actual act of registration is performed by staff in Student Services (SPS).

Students must enroll in classes prior to the first day of class or they will be assessed a late fee. Students registering with credit registration forms must completed and submit their forms before the first day of the class(es). Incomplete forms could delay registration and result in late fees being assessed on your tuition.

For the most up-to-date course schedule, see One Stop. Note that administrative licensure courses differ from most classes at the University of Minnesota in that our courses often begin later and end earlier than most fifteen-week "regular" courses.

Registration for new students

Students wishing to take licensure courses who have not been accepted into the administrative licensure program must complete an Application for non-degree admission and complete a Credit registration form. Both completed forms should be mailed to the program assistant at:

Department of Educational Policy and Administration
330 Wulling Hall
86 Pleasant St. S.E.
Minneapolis, MN 55455

Forms may also be faxed to 612-624-3377.

Once your non-degree application and enrollment request have been processed, you will receive a confirmation via mail. Please note the student ID that has been assigned to you. You will need this number in order to register for classes online.

Online registration for continuing students

After your initial enrollment through the Office of Student and Professional Services, you will be able to register online for classes. Doing so enables you to register, verify enrollment, and drop/courses as long as you complete this process before the end of the first week of the appropriate semester. If you try to register during the second week of a semester, the online registration system will require a course permission number in addition to the usual course information, and it will charge your account an automatic late fee, regardless of whether you enrolled before the first day of the course(s) in question.

One Stop provides access to the registration system. It also provides a number of other useful services, such as viewing and printing course enrollments, viewing holds on your student record, viewing student billing, viewing grades, and updating your address and phone number when you move.

Prior to online registration

Make sure that you have all necessary identifying information about the courses you plan to take. The most current course schedule is available at One Stop. For each class you will need a different subject, course, section, and class number. For example, you decide to take Student Activity Programs, EDPA 5080, Section 5, #30380. The subject is EDPA. The course number is 5080. The section number is 5 (or 05 or 005). The class (call) number is 30380. If any information is incorrect, you could be enrolled in and billed for the wrong class.

Online registration

You will need your student ID or social security number to register online. For online registration instructions, including a tutorial, and other registration related information please check One Stop.

Troubleshooting

  1. If you have registered as a non-degree student in a previous semester but find yourself deactivated when you register online, please contact the program assistant at licensure@umn.edu or 612-625-9087.

  2. If a course permission number fails to work in the online registration system, contact EDPA, 612-624-1006, and request another. Sometimes the system refuses to accept them.

  3. One-credit courses can be taken only for an S/N (pass/fail) grade while three-credit courses can be taken for either an A/F or S/N grade with one exception: EDPA 5396 must be taken for an S/N grade.

  4. Questions about other problems should be directed to SPS staff at 612-625-6501 or the Computer Help Line at 612-626-4276. Questions about licensure courses should be directed to program assistant at licensure@umn.edu or 612-625-9087.

Registration forms

New students must complete both forms listed below in order for SPS to process their enrollments. Continuing students need only complete a credit registration form unless they did not register for courses as a non-degree student in the previous semester. This would include graduate students enrolling as non-degree students in order to receive a lower tuition rate. In this case continuing students should complete both forms.

Application for non-degree admission

Credit registration form

Be sure to complete the entire form, including your insurance information and signature. If you are registering for a class that is 2 or more credits, indicate your grading preference (A/F, S/N).

Always keep copies of your forms in case they are lost in the mail or delayed. If any information is incorrect or incomplete, timely processing of your registration will be delayed, which could result in late fees being assessed on your tuition.
