M.A. in kinesiology sample program with an emphasis in exercise physiology

Required program: 30 credits minimum

GPA: A minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 is required to maintain good standing and to graduate

Major:
A minimum of 14 semester credits with KIN prefix (not including KIN 8777 or 8995)

Required courses:

  • KIN 5981—Research Methodology in Kinesiology, Recreation, and Sport, 3 cr.
  • KIN 8980—Graduate Research Seminar in Kinesiology, 1 cr.

and one of the following research options:

  • KIN 8777—Thesis Credits: Masters (Plan A), 10 cr.
  • or
  • KIN 8995—Research Problems in Kinesiology (Plan B), 4 cr.

Recommended exercise physiology courses:

  • KIN 5122—Applied Exercise Physiology, 3 cr.
  • KIN 5141—Nutrition for Health and Physical Performance, 3 cr.
  • KIN 5171—Foundations of Kinesiology, 3 cr.
  • KIN 5385—Exercise for Disease Prevention and Management, 3 cr.
  • KIN 5435—Advanced Theory and Techniques of Exercise Science, 3 cr.
  • KIN 5485—Advanced Electrocardiogram, Graded Exercise Testing, and Prescription, 3 cr.
  • KIN 8122—Seminar: Exercise Physiology, 3 cr.

Minor or related field:
A minimum of 6 semester credits in one or more related fields (not KIN prefix)

Required courses (6 statistical credits are required):

  • EPSY 5261—Introductory Statistical Methods, 3 cr.
  • EPSY 8261—Statistical Methods I: Probability and Inference, 3 cr.
  • EPSY 8262—Statistical Methods II: Regression & the General Linear Model, 3 cr.
  • PUBH 6450—Biostatistics I, 4 cr.
  • PUBH 6451—Biostatistics II, 4 cr.

Elective courses in both the major and the minor or related field will be selected by the student and the adviser, subject to the adviser’s approval. These will be selected according to the student’s prior academic background and future academic and career goals. Access to graduate level courses in minor or related fields may be limited by prerequisites and demand.
