Emotional intelligence and a systems approach to leadership:
“The Big Picture”
Facilitator: Bernie Saunders,
educational consultant
Many leadership experts worldwide conclude that Emotional
Intelligence (EI) is the barometer of excellence on virtually
any job. School district leaders have been using EI to broaden
their leadership capacity, improve school climate and increase
student achievement, and reduce risk behaviors. Peter Salovey
and John D. Mayer, leading researchers on emotional
intelligence, define emotional intelligence as, “the subset of
social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor one's
own and others' feelings and emotions, to discriminate among
them and to use this information to guide one's thinking and
actions” (1990).
This workshop will provide participants with opportunities to
explore their emotional intelligence and skills for
incorporating EI into their leadership style. Participants will
also learn “Big Picture” theory in approaching leadership for
systemic improvement.
