How do I register for a learning community?
You register online just as you would for any U of M course, but in order to make sure that students registering for a learning community class take the whole package of courses, you’ll use special permission numbers in the registration process.
Will these courses work for my major and meet graduation requirements?
All learning community classes count for graduation, and most of them will also fulfill a variety of graduation and major requirements. Check with your adviser for details.
Will spending my first year in learning communities slow down my graduation or my entry into a major?
In almost all cases, no. Most University students spend their first year fulfilling liberal education requirements and taking introductory courses that allow them to explore various majors, and that’s what the learning communities will allow you to do. If you need to take specific prerequisite courses (in math, science, or other subjects) that are not included in your learning community, you can add those courses to your learning community registration as electives.
