Driven to Discover
at the College of Education and Human
Development
The major quality that unites everyone at a research university
is the desire—the drive—to discover.
- Students are learning new subjects, new ways of
thinking, new ways of finding needed information to succeed
as scholars.
- Faculty are researching new ideas and concepts, looking
for answers to the dilemmas that face our world.
- With our partners in the community, we are striving to
discover the best ways of learning from one another and
working together to discover the best ways to improve the
lives and education of all.
To highlight this quality that we hold in common, the University
is using an advertising campaign and interactive Web site built
around the idea of “Driven to Discover.” Members of the
community were invited to
pose questions to our best thinkers for answers and many of
those questions have been directed to the College of Education
and Human Development. Read on for our answers to the following
questions:
Do we have memories from before we were
born?

Why have sports taken on such a prominent
role in society?

What if celebrity and teacher salaries
were reversed?

Does it really take a village to raise a
child?

Can we curb aggression?

In a free and democratic society, what
do we need to do to education al children so they have an
opportunity at success?
