WHRE 5001 Survey: HRD and Adult Education (3 cr)
General review of the fields of adult education and human resource development; philosophy, goals, agencies, professional roles, processes, participants, resources.
While it is not a pre-requisite, students are encouraged to take this course first.
AdEd 5101 Strategies for Teaching Adults (3 cr)
Identification, classification and analysis of techniques used in teaching adults.
AdEd 5102 Perspectives of Adult Learning and Development (3 cr)
Physiological, social, and cultural bases of adult behavior; motivation, socialization, personality change as applied to education of adults.
AdEd 5103 Designing the Adult Education Program (3 cr)
Designing and implementing educational programs for adults: concepts, theories, determining needs, educational objectives, learning experiences, and evaluating outcomes.
AdEd 5196 Field Experience in Adult Education (3-6 sem cr)
Supervised fieldwork practice and seminars; presentations on and evaluations of adult education practices.
AdEd 5201 Introduction to Adult Literacy (3 cr)
Issues in literacy education, characteristics, problems, individual differences of the undereducated adult; traditional and innovative approaches for working with adults in literacy programs.
AdEd 5202 Assessment of Adult Literacy (3 cr)
Application of diagnostic information, instruments, and techniques to learning difficulties of adult in reading and math programs.
AdEd 5203 Methods of Teaching Adult Literacy (3 cr)
Teaching literacy skills to adults: basic theories, approaches, overview of methods and materials for implementation.
AdEd 5301 Survey of Distance Education (3 cr)
Survey of distance education covering the concept, theories, history, delivery systems, and present practice. Emphasis is on practice in the U.S., but topics and issues are explored from an international perspective.
AdEd 5302 Continuing Education and the Professions (3 cr)
Review of literature; analysis of philosophies, issues, professional needs, and statutory requirements in continuing education.
AdEd 5303 Working with Volunteers in Community Settings (3 cr)
Uses collaborative, experiential methods to address fundamental issues and practices in volunteer development. Explore personal philosophies, staffing, and key issues and trends in the administration of volunteer programs.
AdEd 5611 Futurism in Human Resource Department and Adult Education (3 cr)
Exploration of the implications of future developments, trends, and issues in theory and practice in human resource development and adult education. Students forecast future models of what will be work, family, and community and the future role of HRD and adult educators.
WHRE 5612 Managing and Consulting in Human Resource Development and Adult Education (3 cr)
Theory of managing and consulting in human resource development and adult education. Assessment of role requirements and experimentation with practical management and consultation processes and techniques.
AdEd 5700 Special Topics in Adult Education (1-4 cr)
Exploration of issues, methods, and knowledge in areas of adult education. Topics vary.
WHRE 8001 Advanced Theories in Human Resource Development and Adult Education (3 cr)
Theoretical understanding of individuals and organizations as adaptive entities; roles of human resource development and adult education in mediating complex demands.
