Endorsement Process
Teachers of keyboarding for computer applications endorsement
applicants must do the following:

Complete each of the following forms:

Submit these completed and signed forms to

A business and marketing education evaluation team at the
University of Minnesota will review the endorsement forms. All
the forms and an indication whether a candidate meets the
criteria will be forwarded to the College of Education and Human
Development for review and approval. After reviewing the
information presented, the College of Education Human
Development will return the application materials to the
applicants who are responsible for submitting the forms and
paying any fees to the Minnesota Department of Education.
For those individuals who need keyboarding and/or computer
applications courses, keyboarding and computer applications
courses are available at technical and community colleges. At
the University of Minnesota the following courses are available:
Computing Technical Content/Skills:
BIE 5011—Introduction to Computer Applications (3 cr)
Instructional uses of computers and representative
business/marketing education applications, including word
processing, databases, spreadsheets, and graphics.
Keyboarding Technical Content/Skills:
Competency exam administered by University of Minnesota or evidence of prior keyboarding instruction
Professional Methods Meeting
Endorsement
Requirements:
BIE 5463—Methods in Teaching Keyboarding and Word Processing (2
cr)
Implementing keyboarding and word processing; effective teaching
strategies; expected learner outcomes; evaluation methods;
selecting hardware; instructional materials (including print,
software, Internet); organizing and managing labs.
BIE 5662—Computer Training in School and Industry Settings (3
cr)
Alternative teaching practices for business applications
software: word processors, spreadsheets, graphics, desktop
publishing, databases, and communications; public school and
industry settings.
