Requirements for a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.):

Work and Human Resource Education with a Specialization in Human Resource Development

General Aspects (12 credits minimum)

WHRE 8141—History and Philosophy of Work and Human Resource Education (3 cr)

WHRE 8142—Comparative Systems in Work and Human Resource Education (3 cr)

Electives to total a minimum of 12 credits (at least 6 credits must be outside WHRE)

Research (20 credits minimum)

WHRE 8911—Foundations of Inquiry (3 cr)

WHRE 8915—Ethics and Responsible Research (1 cr)

WHRE 8990—Research Seminar (1 cr)

Graduate level statistics course (2-4 cr)

Plus quantitative research:

WHRE 8912—Quantitative Research (3 cr)
plus a second statistics course (3-4 cr)

Plus one additional course:

CI 8913—Interpretive Research (3 cr)
or
CI 8914—Critical Science Research (3 cr)

Electives to total a minimum of 20 credits

HRD Specialization (24 credits minimum)

WHRE 5001—Survey: HRD and Adult Education (3 cr)

AdEd 5101—Strategies for Teaching Adults (3 cr)

HRD 5105—Strategic Planning Through Human Resource Development (3 cr)

HRD 5196—Internship: Human Resources Development (4 cr)

HRD 5201—Training and Development of Human Resources (3 cr)

HRD 5301—Organization Development (3 cr)

WHRE 8001—Advanced Theories in Adult Ed & HRD (3 cr)

Electives:
At least one course in HRD required

Thesis Credits (24 credits minimum)

Educ 8888—Thesis Credit: Doctoral (1-24 cr)

Notes: A minimum of 84 total semester credits is required. 12 credits must be from outside WHRE.

WHRE 8990—Research Seminar (1 cr only)

PLUS A graduate level introductory statistics course (3 cr min.)

HRD Specialization (28 cr minimum)

WHRE 5001—Survey: HRD and Adult Education (3 cr)

HRD 5201—Training and Development of Human Resources (3 cr)

HRD 5301—Organization Development (3 cr)

HRD 5105—Strategic Planning Through Human Resource Development (3 cr)
