Curriculum
Requirements for a Master of Arts (M.A.) in
Education:
Work and Human Resource Education with
a Specialization Comprehensive WHRE Current students should complete
program planning sheets to help you meet your program
requirements.
Minimum of 30 credits required for graduation; at least 6
credits must be taken outside the department
General Aspects (2 credits minimum)
One of the following three courses:
WHRE 5301—Philosophy and Practice of
Career and Technical Education (2 cr)
WHRE 5511—Education for Work (3 cr)
WHRE 5002—Thinking, Learning, and Teaching in
Work and Human Resource Education (3 cr)
Research (3-4 credits)
WHRE 8915—Ethics and Responsible Research (1 cr)
AND one of the following three courses
WHRE 5901—Using Research in Work and Human
Resource Education (3 cr)
WHRE 8912—Quantitative Research in Work
and Human Resource Education (3 cr)
CI 8913—Interpretive Research (3 cr)
Plan A Project (10 credits) or Plan B Paper (3-6 credits)
WHRE 5993—Directed Study in Work and Human
Resource Education
Comprehensive WHRE Specialization (8 credit minimum)
This specialization is an individualized program
structured around the student’s professional role(s). Student
and adviser are expected to work together to plan coursework for
the program.
Students should begin conceptualization of their
program rationale as they enter the program so that coursework
taken supports the student’s goals. Coursework that appears to
have been selected on the basis of access rather than logically
related to the degree and personal goals will not lead to
program approval.
E. Electives (6 cr. minimum)
Must be selected from outside the department/
major (not AdEd, AFEE, BIE, FE, HRD, VoEd, WHRE, or prior
designators for these areas)
Notes: Courses must be at the 5000 level or above.
A maximum of 40% of coursework may be transferred from outside
Graduate School registration.
