TES
Courses

Some
courses may be taken at either the 3000 or 5000 level.
In either case, the course will count toward MnSCU licensure
requiring the Teacher Education Series (TES).
- 3000
level courses are non-degree-seeking or undergraduate
level, and may be applied toward MnSCU licensure or a
bachelor's degree.
- 5000
level courses are post-baccalaureate professional or
graduate level, and may eventually be applied to further
advanced study at professional or graduate level.

Introduction to Career & Technical Education Teaching
This is a course
designed to provide individuals entering the teaching profession with
basic entry level skills to function as a teacher. Course
content addresses: philosophy of career and technical education, planning
of instruction, instructional methods, student evaluation, working
with students who have special needs, and ancillary duties of career
and technical education faculty. There is an emphasis on
micro-teaching and feedback.

Philosophy & Practice of Career and Technical Education
This
is an introduction to contemporary career and technical education through an
examination of the underlying tenets of the field. Federal,
state, and local levels of government are discussed in terms of their
impact on career and technical education in Minnesota. Course content
addresses: the purpose and goals of career and technical education, the
governance structure, historical perspectives, the industry-education
relationship, current career and technical education practices, and possible
future trends and their implications for career and technical education. An additional goal is the development of a personal philosophy of
career and technical education.

This is a course in educational evaluation centered upon
the purposes and functions of evaluation and assessment techniques used
in career and technical education. Course content addresses:
principles of instrument construction, measurement and evaluation,
characteristics of evaluation such as reliability, validity and utility,
interpreting standardized tests, evaluation of students with special
needs, and assessment of instructional effectiveness.

This is a course designed to assist
instructors with the development of courses for career and technical
education and training for business and industry. Course content
addresses: course descriptions, content analysis, course
objectives, sequencing of instruction, and lesson planning taking into
consideration learning needs, ability levels, and unique interests.

This is a course designed to investigate
and apply various methods of instruction used to teach career and
technical education and training. Course content addresses: how people learn, the relationship of methods and motivation, advantages
and disadvantages of particular methods, utilizing methods that are
effective with diverse career and technical education populations, and
personal practice with various methods and technologies.
