Scholarships a presidential priority—
matching opportunity available
This past year, the College of Education and Human
Development was able to provide scholarship support for only a
fraction of the 3,800 students enrolled in the college’s many degree
and licensure programs. Annual undergraduate expenses at the U are now
about $17,000 for Minnesota residents; in addition, teacher education
students must go full-time to school so are unable to work at the same
time.
University President Robert Bruininks believes that
students are important. To support that belief, he has made
scholarship fundraising a top priority, and has set a University-wide
goal of $150 million in new scholarship gifts. To further encourage
giving, the University has created the President’s Scholarship Match,
doubling the impact of gifts for new endowed scholarships.
Undergraduate and postbaccalaureate students in the
College of Education and Human Development can benefit from this
scholarship matching program. The college also benefits from endowed
scholarships by being better able to recruit and retain the best
students, and to make sure financial hardship does not impede them
from completing their course of study.
If you have thought about supporting students, but weren’t sure how to
go about it, or were concerned that your gift would not go far enough,
now is the time to act! Endowed scholarships of at least $25,000 will
qualify for the match, effectively doubling your gift, and commitments
can be paid over five years.

Last year to qualify for fellowship matching
funds!
The college has benefited greatly over the past few
years from generous donors who have established endowed fellowships
for graduate students. If you are interested in students at the
graduate level, there is still time to qualify for matching funds,
doubling the impact of your gift. However, these matching funds are
running out. Please call Lynn Slifer at 612-625-5511 to learn more
about this opportunity.
