Thank / æ k/ v.& n. –v.tr.
- express gratitude to.
- hold responsible, give credit to.
—Oxford English Dictionary
Until we read the above definition, we never thought of
thanking someone as the same thing as holding them responsible.
But when put in the context of charitable giving, it makes
sense.
The nearly 3,300 individuals, corporations, and foundations
listed on the following pages are responsible—through their
gifts totaling nearly $1 million in 2004–05—for strengthening
the college’s programs and research, providing much needed
support to our students, extending the work of our faculty and
staff into the community, and giving us the tools to respond to
new opportunities.
As we look ahead, we see celebration and challenge. This fall we
began celebrating the college’s centennial, recognizing 100
years of research and teaching in the fields of education and
human development.
We face the challenge of a University-wide restructuring that
will greatly expand the College of Education and Human
Development, adding three new departments and as many as 80 new
faculty members.
We hope you will continue to share the responsibility of keeping
this college a great place to learn, with strong research and a
continued commitment to being in partnership with our
communities and schools. Thank you for all you have done. With
your continuing support, we can meet the challenges of the
future.
