I hold a Ph.D. from Stanford University in curriculum and teacher education, with a specialty in science education. For the past two years, I have been a postdoctoral fellow and director of the National Board Research Project at Stanford University, where I had also worked as an instructor and teaching specialist since 1997. For the past six years, I have developed and directed a regional professional development program for practicing teachers who are pursuing National Board Certification in the San Francisco Bay area. I was a middle school teacher for five years in Plainsboro, NJ, and an instructional team leader for four years at the Merck Institute for Science Education in Rahway, NJ. I have focused my research on teacher leadership and professional development and formative assessment in science classrooms.
