Doctor of education (Ed.D.) for international educators

A cohort-based doctoral program for leaders and future leaders in international education

We are pleased to announce a new opportunity for graduate-level study in international education at the University of Minnesota.

This cohort doctoral program is specifically designed to meet the needs of international educators. The curriculum has been designed exclusively with the professional international educator audience in mind, including individuals working with study abroad, international students and scholars, international education and exchange, and other related areas.

Students can pursue doctoral study while continuing to work full time.

Courses are offered during a three-week summer session at the University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities (Minneapolis, MN) campus. During fall and spring semesters courses are offered via the Internet.

This doctoral program has a primary concentration in international education and intercultural training, focusing on theoretical and applied issues that confront international educators working in diverse international contexts. Students who enroll in our program for international educators are typically working or seeking to work as administrators, faculty members, or other professionals in colleges and universities or other international organizations.

The Department of Educational Policy and Administration is proud of its tradition of excellence. Our faculty are not only international education experts, recognized widely for their scholarly work, but are also excellent and committed teachers.

Advantages of the cohort program

A cohort is comprised of individuals pursuing the same degree program as a group. Participants in the international educators concentration follow the same core curriculum and schedule.

  • A cohort provides a learning community in which members support and learn from each other.
  • Instruction and advising is provided by experienced faculty who are experts in international education.
  • The course content is relevant to the needs of international educators.
It is possible to remain fully employed while studying for this advanced degree.
  • Summer living options include dormitories or apartment style living on campus. (Student’s may make other arrangements.)
  • The College is one of the finest professional schools of its kind in the United States, consistently ranked in the top 15 among colleges of education.
