Family social science

The Department of Family Social Science provides outstanding undergraduate, master's and doctoral level education dealing with all aspects of family life in the U.S. and elsewhere, with the full range of factors affecting families, with family therapy, and family education. In national rankings the department is considered the premier family department in America. Departmental faculty are leaders in family research, family theory, family therapy, family education, and consultation on family issues.

Undergraduate (B.S.) degree in family social science

Work with families and individuals in human service agencies, or prepare for graduate study in family social science, child and human development, social work, or other allied health disciplines.

Master of arts (M.A.) in family social science

Offered through the Graduate School, our M.A. program emphasizes research and theory in the context of classroom application. It culminates in an extensive research project or thesis. The application procedures and tuition fees correspond to those of the Graduate School.

Doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) in family social science

Our Ph.D. degree is for students interested in focusing on a particular subject field and includes original research that makes a significant contribution to knowledge in that field. Students pursuing this degree are admitted through the Graduate School.

Marriage and family therapy (MFT) program

The doctoral program specializing in marriage and family therapy typically requires four to five years of full-time post-master's study (including coursework, clinical internship, and doctoral dissertation).
