Language immersion education

This certificate program is for educators interested in teaching in dual language and immersion programs. Dual language and immersion programs aim toward additive bilingualism and biliteracy and use the non-English language to teach at least half of the school subjects during the elementary school years.

Practicing educators will be able to finish the coursework required for the certificate within two to four years, taking classes part-time. The program may be completed independently or as part of an M.Ed., M.A., or Ph.D. program. Courses are offered on the Twin Cities campus.

The college’s second languages and cultures faculty are highly qualified to offer this program through their leadership in research on immersion teaching and immersion student language use, and annual summer institutes on immersion.
