Sport
management
Sport management is an interdisciplinary field of study that provides
students with both academic training and field experience to enhance careers in sport and
fitness management professions. Typical professions in this field include sport
organization management, sport information management (including marketing, promotion,
advertising, and fundraising), and exercise and sports science (including fitness
assessments and exercise prescriptions).
The programs in this field provide coursework in all related disciplines
and recognize the critical necessity for field experience (internships) to enhance career
preparation. Employment opportunities for those who complete studies in sport management
are as diverse as sport itself and are found in both the public and private sectors.
Possibilities include park and recreation programs, college and university recreation
programs, athletic departments at both the high school and college/university level,
professional and minor league teams, health clubs, and various
sport governing bodies such as the United
States Ski and Snowboard Association and the National
Collegiate Athletic Association.
