Youth studies

Youth studies and youth development programs are concerned with cultivating young people’s unique abilities so that they can become happy, healthy adults. The emphasis is on empowerment, engagement, and encouragement of young people. This field offers a wide variety of career opportunities, including work in program administration, policy development, and grassroots activism.

Careers in this field may be based in community organizations such as scouting, YM-YWCAs, Boys and Girls Clubs, church-based organizations, park-recreation programs, family education programs, juvenile justice, social service, grassroots initiatives, public health, and schools.

B.S. in youth studies

Youth studies is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program that can prepare graduates for work in community youth development and human service fields, with a focus on serving urban and marginalized young people.

M.Ed. in youth development leadership

Our M.Ed./professional studies programs are for licensed teachers and other professionals interested in gaining advanced knowledge and skills in specific emphasis in their current field or a new field.
