Gift IMPACT: faculty position encouraging
collaborative efforts to solve educational challenges through the lenses
of economics, history, and psychology
Dollars at
work
During the past five years, the College of Education & Human
Development has raised over $9 million in gifts from alumni and friends.
These gifts are making a real difference to students, faculty and staff.
The following are just a few examples of how gifts are being used.
Student support
Over 500 students receive financial assistance from endowed
scholarships, fellowships, awards and annual gifts to help them complete
their degrees. As just one example, the Rodney Wallace Endowment in
Education Fund provided scholarship support for two Native American
students studying to be teachers. Two new fellowships-the BAS Knorr
Endowed Fund for Fellowships for Family Education and the JoAnne Buggey
Endowed Fellowship in Elementary Education provide support for graduate
students.
Support for faculty
The Robert H. Beck Endowed Chair for Ideas in Education was established
in 1998. When fully funded, this
endowed chair will provide supplemental research support to a current
faculty member or assist the College in recruiting an outstanding new
academician. This spring, funds from the chair will be used to support a
visiting lecturer from Stanford University.
Endowed professorships and chairs allow the
College to attract and retain top faculty from around the world to
continue their teaching and research at our institution. A complete list
of endowed positions is available.
Program support
Gifts to support specific programs in the College are invaluable
sources of funding for such needs as; visiting lecturers; materials
acquisition; professional development; travel to conferences; and support
for student research activities. For example, the Grace Andrews Endowment
for Award-Winning Children's Literature provides support for annual book
acquisitions to the College's Curriculum Materials Resource Center. The
Katherine Miles Durst Fund for Early Childhood Development supports
students, research and programmatic needs in the Institute of Child
Development.
