Kinesiology emphasis areas
Sport management
Sport management concentrates on the theoretical and practical
dimensions of the management of athletic events, sports teams and
facilities, and the sporting process. The management areas studied
include those in the public sector (interscholastic and intercollegiate
sport) as well as fitness and facility management. Sport management
policy and ethics are also a focus of this emphasis area and research
agenda.
The School of Kinesiology is home to the
Sport Marketing Research Group, which
concentrates on conducting and disseminating marketing research for both
the public and private sectors of sport. Research studies focus on the
behaviors of sport consumers, brand management of sport organizations,
and the psychological and sociological principles associated with
marketing strategies.
Students may have the opportunity to be involved in the School’s Sport Business Institute, which provides clients in the sport industry with business consulting and research services overseen by Kinesiology sport management faculty while allowing sport management students to apply current sport management theory and practices and to conduct research in the context of real-world experiences.
