Daniel F. Detzner
Professor, social sciences

Daniel Detzner returned to our department after 17 years as a faculty member and administrator in the College of Human Ecology. General College (GC) was Detzner's first academic home. From 1972 to1987 he was a GC graduate assistant, associate professor, and division head. While teaching in the college, Detzner received the Morse-Alumni Award for Outstanding contributions to Undergraduate Education. He is also a member of the University's Academy of Distinguished Teachers.

As a faculty member in Human Ecology's Department of Family Social Science, Detzner pursued teaching and research interests at the intersection of social gerontology, family science, and ethnic studies. Detzner served as Human Ecology's associate dean for academic affairs from 1996 to 2001 and as interim dean during 2000-01. His new book, Elder Voices: Southeast Asian Families in the United States, was published this year by Alta Mira Press. He holds a Ph.D. in American studies from the University of Minnesota.
