Tina Frederickson
Teaching specialist, communication and theatre arts

Courses taught:

  • 1312—Creating Identities Through Art and Performance
  • 1461—Multicultural Perspectives in Public Speaking

I received my M.A. in communication and theatre arts from the University of Northern Iowa in 1991 and a B.A in communication arts from Moorhead State University in 1989. An actor for +20 years, I have worked for the following Twin Cities theaters: Gremlin Theatre, Fifty Foot Penguin Theater, The Jungle Theater, Pigs Eye Theatre, The Playwrights’ Center, Theatre in the Round, and Starting Gate Productions. Over the years, I have trained extensively with Jane Brody in the Michael Shurtleff approach to Auditioning, and as a result I teach acting workshops in this approach across the region.

In addition, I have taught public speaking, group communication, and interpersonal communication for over 15 years, and coached national award-winning college forensic teams for 10 years. I also worked in corporate America at Levi Strauss & Co. for seven years in marketing, merchandising, and sales, both in Chicago and Minneapolis. These diverse experiences; theatre, speech, and the "real world", intersect and influence how I view and teach both 1312 & 1461.
