Content area preadmission course requirements

Master of education/initial licensure in industrial education (technology education)

Content area courses are prerequisites that must be completed or in progress at the time of M.Ed./ILP program admission.

Courses in the content area are required to meet the Standards of Effective Practice for Teachers (SEPT) and content standards adopted in 1998 by the Minnesota Board of Teaching: "The teacher understands the central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structures of the discipline(s) he or she teaches and can create learning experiences that make these aspects of subject matter meaningful for students."

Contact program faculty at the Department of Work and Human Resource Education (WHRE), who will assess and recommend courses that fulfill this requirement.

General psychology (4 cr)
Select from PSTL 1281 or PSY 1001

Technical content courses (minimum 36 cr)
Students must also complete the technical content credits totaling at least 36 credits in the following areas:

Exploring technology systems

Technical drawing and production technologies

Manufacturing technology

Construction technology

Communication, power and energy, transportation, and machinery technologies

Communication and information technology

Energy, power, and transportation technology

Technical development: advanced

Technological problem-solving

Specialized technical development

Facilities management in business and industry

Occupational experience in business and industry
