Social studies education: Finishing your M.Ed.

Just 7 more credits!

After teaching for at least one year, students earn the master of education degree by completing at least seven semester credits. In addition to a 1-4-credit project (CI 5186—School-Related Projects), students choose elective courses in consultation with the faculty adviser. Typically, these are graduate-level social science and/or education courses.

In addition to completing all program requirements, you must complete the following forms:

  1. CEHD Application for M.Ed. Degree and/or Certificate
  2. Final program form [.pdf] approved by a faculty adviser

Student Services clears degrees for graduation on a monthly basis. Both forms must be submitted to a faculty adviser so they can be received at Student Services on or before the first day of the month that the student intends to graduate. Students who submit forms to Student Services after the first day of the month will be cleared to graduate at the end of the following month.

Notes: Students have seven years to complete their degree, beginning with the first coursework used in the program, and must maintain a 2.80 overall GPA.

Apply by March 1 if you plan to participate in the College commencement ceremony in May.
