Credential file

Students planning to apply for a position in education, or any field requiring a candidate file should establish a credential file.

University of Minnesota faculty, alumnus or any other individual who has taken classes at the University of Minnesota may establish a credential file with Student Services. The credential file will be kept for 30 years from the date of opening; after that time, it will be destroyed.

The credential file contains information about the student’s academic background, skills and training, job-related experiences and any other employment-related qualifications. The file does not include résumés or curriculum vitae, transcripts, personal statements, professional licenses, publication lists, dissertation abstracts, copies of diplomas, or certificates.

Students may also choose to establish an online credential file. A suggested private provider of this service is Interfolio.

Students may request in writing that Student Services send a copy of the Student Services credential file to ReferenceNow. It is the student's responsibility to manage and maintain the online credential file through RefenceNow.

Fees

The annual activation fee for a Student Services credential file for CEHD seniors and post-baccalaureate students in designated teacher licensure programs is included in the $50 fee paid when students submit the Intent to Enroll form, or $30 if you did not pay the confirmation fee.

The annual activation fee is $48 for alumni, graduate students (M.Ed., M.A., Ph.D., etc.) and those renewing their registration. The fee entitles a registrant to the credential service. Ten (10) sets of credentials are provided during any one activation period without further charge. The activation period extends from the date of activation until the end of one full year or when the student becomes unavailable for a position (due to employment).
