Upward Bound summer employment

Upward Bound offers three categories of summer employment opportunities: academic classroom, residential advising, and administrative.

Residential advising positions entail the development and implementation of experiential activities for program participants. See job description.

Academic positions range from instructor to teaching assistant. Academic courses offered may include: math, English, literature, composition and writing, reading and comprehension development, government/civic participation, forensic science, conflict mediation, test preparation, college planning, foreign language, and more. The range of hours offered is part-time to full-time. Salary varies depending on qualifications.

All positions

Mandatory staff training

Summer orientation (only 1 session is required)

Summer staff training

Criminal background history

All positions require a criminal background check.

Driver training

Should driving be assigned to your position, a two hour 15-passenger vehicle training is required.

The training is June 11, 3 to 5 p.m.

Residential positions

Employment dates: Sunday, June 22 through Friday, July 25, 2008. Staff typically work Sunday early evening through Friday afternoon.

Driver history check: Because driving is a required function, a driver's history check is required.

Driver training: Training is required for all residential employees and must be renewed every four years. See training dates above.

Academic and administrative positions

Employment dates: Monday through Friday, June 23 through August 1, 2008. Academic hours will vary depending on the number of courses taught.

Driver training: Should driving be assigned to your position, a four hour drier training is required and must be renewed every four years. See training dates above.
