Requirements for admission consideration to the upper division major
- 60 credits completed or in progress at the time of application
- Experience with young children
- All of Content Area 1 completed or in progress and at least one half of Content Areas 2-6 completed or in progress:
Content Area 1: Basic requirements
- General psychology
- Introductory child psychology
- One year of college-level second language
Content Area 2: Language and Communication
- Public speaking
- Introduction to linguistics
- Language development and communication
Content Area 3: Mathematics
- Statistical reasoning
- College algebra
- Logic/computer skills (if needed)
Content Area 4: Science
- Biological science w/lab
- Physical science w/lab
- Science elective
Content Area 5: Social Studies
- Cultural pluralism/diversity in the U.S.
- American history
- Human geography
Content Area 6: Communication Arts and Literature
- First-year writing
- American literature
- Children’s literature
- Arts and humanities elective
