Non-degree seeking students

The non-degree seeking student status may be used by educators or education-related professionals wishing to take courses or by persons needing to complete prerequisites for admission (no more than 40 percent of your coursework may transfer into your program). A bachelor's degree is required. 

non-degree seeking students may enroll in 1xxx-, 3xxx-, and 5xxx-level courses, but need permission from an academic department to enroll in its 8xxx-level courses. Call the College’s office of Student Services at 612-625-5815 for complete details.

How to register for courses

You are considered a non-degree seeking student if you have a bachelor’s degree and are not currently admitted to a degree-seeking program at the University of Minnesota.

If you have taken classes within the last year as a non-degree undergraduate, you can use Web registration. This registration option is not available to students who need to change registration status (for example, undergraduate to graduate status). You may register for coursework by completing the CEHD Credit Enrollment Request Form [.pdf]. Note: Students must be admitted to the M.Ed./initial licensure program to enroll in most EDHD-designated courses. Please check the course schedule for prerequisites.

Applying courses to a future degree programs

You are strongly encouraged to consult with a program adviser before registering for any course you might want to use towards a degree in the future. Programs can limit the number and type of credits they accept before admission.
