2025 CEHD Summer Institute
Artificial Intelligence: Ethics, Education, and Research
Course overview
University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development offers a hybrid Summer Institute on Critical Digital Literacies in the context of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI), focusing on their impact on education, research, and knowledge production. While AI is often framed as a neutral or inevitable force, this course challenges that perspective by examining who creates AI, who benefits from it, and how it reinforces existing power structures. This Summer Institute offers a unique opportunity for faculty, graduate students, and scholars to critically engage with AI tools used in teaching and academic research while exchanging knowledge and skills with faculty from the University of Minnesota.
The course blends online engagement (readings, discussions, case studies) with in-person workshops and collaborative projects, providing a critical yet applied approach to AI in education and academia.
