Think of your resume as a living document that is continually updated as you gain experience or choose to look for different types of opportunities. Each version of your resume should reflect your personal brand or professional identity.
Purpose of a resume
You might use a resume:
- To apply for internships and jobs
- As part of graduate school applications
- To apply for scholarships and grants
- As an introduction to networking connections
Review Your Resume
Before sending your resume to an employer or your contacts, consider having your advisor, mentor, or career coach review it. To create a draft of your resume or prepare for a meeting with a CEHD Career Coach, students and recent graduates should:
- Review our Fundamentals of Resume Writing Guide (PDF | Google doc), as well as CV writing and cover letter resources.
and/or attend a resume workshop. - Use strong action verbs when creating your skill statements.
- Bring your resume/CV to a career coaching appointment or a weekly drop-in session for personalized support and review.
